MOUNTAINEERING AND FREERIDING
Mountaineering is the jewel in the crown of mountain activities and is the one discipline that encompasses all of the others and transports them to glaciers and the mountain peaks.Mountaineering isn’t just about technical ability but about knowing the mountain like the back of your hand, being able to pick up on the slightest signals to predict how the weather might change, the ability to move from rock to rock without dislodging a stone or to move across difficult terrain with crampons… in brief a good mountaineer needs to feel totally at home on the mountain.
In the splendid setting of Bardonecchia alpine guides can add an extra dimension of safety if you book them for your excursion whether it’s to go mountaineering, ski mountaineering, freeridingor snowshoeing.
FAT E-BIKE WINTER ADVENTURE
The last winters have confirmed the tendency to be snow-poor at lower elevations and, according to the Refuges managers of the upper Valle di Susa, the E-bike represents the possibility for them to work even when the snow conditions are penalizing for winter hiking, for ski mountaineering and for snowshoe hikes.
The E-bike, especially in its "Fat" version, with extra-large tires that allow an important flotation on elements such as snow and sand, is the new mechanical horse on which to ride km of roads and mountain paths as well in "winter mode".
The proposed excursions allow you to discover the territory of Bardonecchia, the High Susa Valley and the bordering France with stops to recharge the batteries, enjoying food and warmth in Refuges and Gite d'Etape.
From one-hour tests to a weekend, with the possibility to create tailor-made excursions, the offer meets all the levels of requirement for a new approach to the silence of the winter mountains.

SNOW SHOES
Equipped with special snow shoes (known as "ciaspole" in local Piemontese dialect) you can enjoy some of the most spectacular scenery in the Alps, whilst keeping fit and working numerous muscles. This activity is suitable for all ages and walkers are free to go at their own pace.
There are 3 signposted routes in Bardonecchia that are suitable for snow shoe walking. The starting-points are at the top of the 3 main ski lifts in the 3 skiing areas of the resort (Colomion, Melezet and Jafferau). Given the altitude of the paths, the snow conditions are almost always likely to be good.
Track 1 - Melezet
Leaving from Chesal, the walk (3.5km) is through a beautiful wood with great views over the Valle Stretta.
Track 2 - Colomion
Leaving from Pian del Sole, the walk (1.5km) is a leisurely one and is suitable for all the family (children must be accompanied by an adult at all times).
Track 3 - Jafferau
Leaving from the top of the gondola, the walk (7km) is more demanding but rewards the walker with the most wonderful views.

CROSS COUNTRY SKIING
The cross country ski runs are situated in the beautiful setting of the Pian del Colle and Valle Stretta.
At the recently opened "Centro di Fondo" (Cross Country Skiing Centre) at Pian del Colle there’s a bar, ski hire and lessons held by the instructors of the ski schools.

The mountain refuge, Re Magi, can be reached from Pian del Colle, by skiing through an area known as "la Parete dei Militi" (the Soldiers' Wall) and past the refuge, Terzo Alpini. This is an area of outstanding beauty and, in particular, the area of la Parete dei Militi echoes the landscape of the Dolomites.
Sometimes it may be necessary to close the cross-country runs leading to the Re Magi due to avalanche risk.
Trail at Decauville 2000m
This cross country run is at an altitude of 2000 metres and is entirely flat. It can be reached via the Jafferau gondola and is open until April.
